  • El Pato is a daytime place and is closed in the evenings, so make sure you go early. I went for breakfast. You will see their big sign on the fence.  It is a simple place consisting of a palapa with tables and chairs. You can move your chair out into the sun which is what I did.  The couple who own it are some of the most hospitable and friendly people who you will ever meet.

The bowl of mixiotes, which is about as comforting as a meal can get, is only 50 pesos and comes with all the freshly made tortillas and homemade salsa that you want.  I recommend the lamb, but you can also order chicken. El Pato also serves lamb barbacoa which is also the best barbacoa that I’ve eaten in San Miguel (and yes, I’ve had it from the Rodriguez Family, which comes in as a close second, at the Tuesday Market).  El Pato only uses young lambs, and there is just so much more flavor.
