Feed the Hungry Welcomes Mario Bravo to Its Advisory Council

FEED THE HUNGRY SAN MIGUEL WELCOMES MARIO BRAVO TO ITS ADVISORY COUNCIL  

San Miguel de Allende, Gto. MEXICO — FTH announces the appointment of a new member of its Advisory Council: Mr. Mario Bravo. “We are thrilled to have someone of Mario’s background and stature on our advisory board. He will contribute invaluable experience and be of much help to our mission,“ said Al Kocourek, president of Feed the Hungry San Miguel, Inc. 

 Mario Bravo has been involved in social development programs for more than three decades, having travelled to more than 105 countries and implemented programs for the public good in 65 of them.  He’s served in international organizations, scientific and academic institutions, and in the public sector, cutting through red tape and getting things done—from the Office of the President of Mexico to grass-roots programs in some of the most destitute regions. 

 Mario’s recent positions include: Senior Advisor at the US Agency for International Development (USAID) where he helped manage the Agency’s response to Ebola; Vice-President and Director of Knowledge Management at the Academy for Educational Development; Development Communications Lead at the World Bank; and Advisor to the Director of the Getty Conservation Institute. 

 In Mexico, he was Communications Director for one of the world’s most successful vaccination programs, Executive Director of the National HIV/AIDS program (CONAVA), and a member of the regional team that rolled back an emergent cholera epidemic in the Americas.   Prior to his first major career change and while still involved in broadcasting, Mario managed educational programming for young audiences at Televisa, one of the largest media conglomerates, and became Deputy Producer for the first international version of Sesame Street.  He collaborated on the creation of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, helping to pioneer distance learning in his country.  

 Mario holds a BA in Communications for Development from the Iberoamericana University in Mexico, and Master’s degrees from Harvard (Public Administration), London (Distance and Non-formal Education) and Reading Universities (Rural Development).  

Feed the Hungry San Miguel, established in 1984, is committed to improving the health and well-being of children in San Miguel de Allende, GTO, Mexico, by alleviating hunger through school meals, family nutrition education, and community development programs. FTH now operates a combination of poverty alleviation programs that serve thousands of elementary school-age children and their families, mainly through kitchens attached to dozens of schools in communities in the San Miguel municipality, mostly in underserved rural areas.  FTH also supplies food to seven local charities.  Beginning in 2020, with schools closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, FTH has been providing food and hygiene supplies as well as masks for entire families, benefiting 20,000 local residents.  For more information about Feed the Hungry San Miguel please visit feedthehungrysma.org
