The new era of wine began in Guanajuato in 2005 and to date there are more than 60 international medals in the most prestigious competitions, there are 17 wineries with a very good tourist offer and with differentiated products, several municipalities are involved, and everyone should know that there is a wine museum in Dolores Hidalgo, which is a very important place because there are only two wine museums in Mexico, This is a very important place because there are only two museums in Mexico, the only one is in Ensenada and Guanajuato also has it, working hand in hand and creating good synergies is part of the strategy that Guanajuato is applying to promote the wine sector.

What they are doing right now is a project called “Enoturismo Guanajuato Tierra de Vinos”, in this project what they are looking for is to create links or synergies with their strategic allies, which are the local tour operators.

The project is aimed mainly at local tour operators, referring to travel agencies, wedding planners, tour guides, people working in restaurants, hotels, and what they are trying to do is that all of them, who are part of the tourism sector, recognize wine tourism, which is wine tourism and that it is done in areas where there are vineyards. That all of them recognize that they belong to a wine region because there are many of these actors who do not know a vineyard.

Cinthya Ducoing Vázquez, Director of Uva y Vino de Guanajuato A.C., explains that in Guanajuato there are already 35 wine projects, and of these, 17 are the ones that are open to receive visitors, that is, to wine tourism, these projects are located in the municipalities of Dolores Hidalgo, San Miguel de Allende, San Francisco del Rincón, San Felipe, Guanajuato Capital and Comonfort.

That is what they are trying to do with this project, which is the first part, that this sector of operators recognize the areas so that they can recommend them to visitors.

“What we are doing with them is to take them to the vineyards and let them know what is being done, what are the tourist experiences offered by each winery, so that later they can share it with the visitor, because due to this contingency we are also seeing it as an opportunity, because we know that right now the visitor needs short trips in the open air, so in Guanajuato we are in a very strategic place in the center of the country where we can attract tourists from different areas”, explained Cinthya.

So we want to detonate this wine sector in this way and now we want to take advantage of our operators so that they can also generate some work because we know that everything has stopped now, so that they can also become active, that is what this project is about, to make an integral project, not only for us around wine, but for all the agents involved,” she added.

They are making visits with different tour operators, they have already visited different vineyards in Dolores Hidalgo, tomorrow they will visit San Miguel de Allende, then they will visit Guanajuato, San Felipe, San Francisco del Rincón, but that is what is being done, so that they know, they know how strong the sector is here in Guanajuato, what can be done and that they can join them to make a good product at state level.

This is the first part of the project, also what they have been doing are some presentations of wines in different restaurants, in different municipalities, so that all this culture is made known and that everyone sees it as an opportunity, it is one of the strategies that they are carrying very closely with the Secretary of Tourism of the State that are supporting them. They are going to make a catalog of everything that is being done as experiences in Guanajuato to be able to replicate it to all the operators, who now see them as strategic allies to detonate the wine route in the State.
