Today, I had the pleasure of dining in a completely new restaurant, Silveyra’s just at the border de Ojo de Agua. It was suggested that I stop by, so during my break I strolled on over.
    .
In my mission to find hidden places to eat, I’d have a hard time finding one more hidden. In all my walks through San Miguel, I had never been on that street. In a beautiful house, on a nice privada is Silveyra’s a very homestyle restaurant. It’s lovely, quaint and fun.
    .
The owners story is inspiring. In the midst of planning to open a Veracruz style restaurant in Kansas City, Keli and Rueben, were forced to relocate suddenly when Rueben was deported.
You should really read their story in it’s entirely here. https://www.silveyrassma.com/our-story. You really should!

Let me say that they are making a great thing out of a bad situation. Using their combined years of restaurant experience, they have opened up this little gem. They are friendly, attentive and fun.
I ordered a country fried steak hot sandwich which… Wait, why did I want a chicken fried steak sandwich? Well, first CHICKEN. FRIED. STEAK. Nuff said. Second, I am an adult… most of the time anyway, and get to pick my own food… even when it was a childhood favorite. Third, the Goddess, Renee Ewine, wasn’t there to interfere, so I took full advantage of the opportunity.
I haven’t had a CFS sandwich in years!
    .
It came quickly and was delicious and huge. By huge, I mean, I had a hard time finishing it. I did finish it, mind you. A hard time is not impossible, and I do have a certain talent at finishing my plate.
    .
Grandma always said I was a good boy. But it was huge with plentiful fries.
    .
The bill before tip with a drink? A whopping $95 pesos.
    .
The food is solid. The place is lovely. But the story of Keli and Reuben, a couple making a great thing out of the difficult cards dealt to them, is fantastic. Please read their story.

When we started these reviews and the Fat Bastard Brunches, these were exactly the kind of places I had in mind. Normal people doing the best they can to make a little beauty and goodness with food inexpensive enough that anyone could afford.
    .
Other Gringos can have their fancy restaurants and their upscale brunches. Me? I love eating in a place with delightful food and a real human story that warms my heart. I don’t want elegance. I want humanity and that is found here.

Restaurante Silveyra: I rate this Four chubby chins quivering in pleasure.
