  • SANMIGUELENSES UNIDOS, a citywide security organization, invites all San Miguel de Allende residents to its next public meeting.

    DATE:    Thursday, November 21, 2019
    TIME:    6:00-7:30 p.m.
PLACE: Hotel Posada de La Aldea, Ancha de San Antonio #15

GUEST SPEAKER: Henry David Flores — “From Convicted Felon to Model Citizen: Insights on How to Think Like a Thief”

Everything Henry David Flores knows about crime and criminals he learned from living on the “other side of the law.” In spite of being raised in a loving Catholic home, he started using heroin in his teens. This addiction led him to commit serious felonies, including burglary and bank robbery, and being convicted and sentenced to years behind bars.

But, after spending more than two decades in a California prison, Flores said enough is enough and was given the opportunity to participate in the Delancey Street Foundation two-year residential program that provides rehabilitation services and vocational training for substance abusers and convicted criminals.

He proudly proclaims it was the best decision of his life! Given this “second chance,” after completing the program Flores became an upstanding citizen, remaining drug-free and out of jail, working for the Salvation Army before starting his own repair and maintenance business, and sharing his compelling story with groups, including Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous in the States and the Midday Rotary Club in San Miguel de Allende.

Mr. Flores retired to San Miguel with his wife five years ago and now works as an artist and a photographer. With hopes that his insights into his troubled past will enlighten the public and keep us safer, Mr. Flores will talk about his life as a thief and offer advice on making ourselves and our homes safer, and what to do, and not do, if our homes are invaded.

Mr. Flores’s talk will be presented in English with Spanish translation available. A Q&A will follow.

ALSO at the event: As a public service, SMU in partnership with Don Pedro hardware store will be selling the A1 BITWO GAS DETECTOR at a 10% discount, for $540 mxn, CASH ONLY (item retails for $599 mxn).

BITWO Electronics is the leading Mexican manufacturer of gas detectors for residential use. The BITWO A1 plugin gas detector detects toxic gases from LP gas (propane), natural gas (methane), carbon monoxide and smoke.

SMU is grateful to Don Pedro for this special offer and it’s commitment to keeping our community safe.

A brief Sanmiguelenses Unidos business meeting will precede the talk.
