    BELMOND CASA DE SIERRA NEVADA

A cluster of historic buildings at the centre of the city, this charming luxury hotel offers the ultimate Mexican experience.

Cool, leafy gardens, stone arches and traditional wooden doors surround pretty courtyards lit by lanterns as night falls. Peaceful though this is—especially when within the tranquil Laja Spa—just step outside and you are surrounded by San Miguel de Allende’s many colors, scents and sounds. The hotel has its own cooking school, Sazon, where you can learn to create traditional Mexican treats.

    AMENITIES

Swimming pool In the heart of Casa Palma is a hidden oasis. The azure pool sits surrounded by the beautiful stone arches and arcades of the mansion. A courtyard dotted with manicured trees and colourful flowers makes it a fantastic setting for a cooling dip. Recline on the luxury loungers with cocktail in hand and while away the day. Boutique The Boutique at Sazón features some of Mexico’s finest home-ware. We carefully source from local artisans whose marvellous creations are tomorrow’s heirlooms. Browse through handcrafted pottery, glassware, linens and paintings with a chance to meet some of the talented craftspeople. Pick up some pottery from Gorky Gonzalez, from Michoacan, who mastered his craft under the guidance of his father. Rescuing the lost craft of majolica—beautiful tin-glazed pottery—his famed creations are a wonderful talking point for your home. Or find colourful creations from Juan Carlos Breceda, from Sinaloa. Having studied at many fine art institutes and receiving several prizes, including the National Contest of Drawing and Painting, his work has been exhibited throughout South America, Europe and the USA.

This 18th century boutique hotel in the center of downtown San Miguel de Allende is also a cooking school called Sazon. Each of the 37 rooms is uniquely decorated with traditional Spanish colonial and modern touches. Choose from a variety of different size rooms depending on your needs. Amenities include phone, bathrobe, turndown service, TV and butler service. Dine at one of the two restaurants inside the hotel or have a private dinner in your room. Peek into a class to watch future chefs prepare Mexican cuisine. Ask about special packages and offers.
