Everything Henry David Flores knows about crime and criminals he learned from living “on the other side of the law”.  Despite being raised in a loving Catholic home, he began using heroin in his teens.  This addiction led him to commit serious crimes, including bank robberies and robberies, and to be convicted and sentenced to years behind bars.

But, after spending more than two decades in a California prison, Flores said “enough is enough” and was given the opportunity to participate in the two-year residential program of the Delancey Street Foundation that provides rehabilitation and vocational training services for substance abusers and convicted criminals.  He proudly proclaims that it was the best decision of his life!  Given this “second chance,” after completing the program, Flores became a leading citizen, drug-free and out of jail, working for the Salvation Army before starting his own repair and maintenance business, and sharing his compelling story with groups, including Narcotics Anonymous, Alcoholics Anonymous and the Rotary Club of San Miguel de Allende Midday.

Mr. Flores retired to San Miguel with his wife five years ago and now works as an artist and photographer.  Hoping that his ideas about his troubled past will enlighten the public and keep us safer, Mr. Flores will talk about his life as a thief and offer advice on how to make ourselves and our homes safer, and what to do and what  not to do, if our houses are invaded Mr. Flores’s talk will be presented in English with Spanish translation available.  A question and answer session will follow.
