You’ve heard about stem cells in the news, and perhaps you’ve wondered if they might help you or a loved one with a serious disease. You may wonder what stem cells are, how they’re being used to treat disease and injury, and why they’re the subject of vigorous debate.

Experts from The Clinic will discuss some of the most frequently asked questions about stem cells: What are stem cells? Why is there such an interest in stem cells? Where do stem cells come from?

Dr. Gordillo, Director of The Clinic, and his colleague, Dr. Carlos Tellez Osorio, will introduce The Clinic’s new program for stem cell therapies that might benefit people with spinal cord injuries, type 1 diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, heart disease, stroke, burns, cancer and osteoarthritis.  The stem cells can be guided into becoming specific cells that can be used to regenerate and repair diseased or damaged tissues.

The Clinic houses the first medical research facility in SMA and is one of the few in Mexico to integrate medicine, wellness, and research including into stem cell therapy. The staff includes an experienced virologist and a legal advisor to answer ethical questions.

Dr. Werner Ricardo Gordillo is director The Clinic.   He is of German and Mexican heritage, but he grew up primarily in Mexico in San Miguel Allende and Puebla and attended the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara (UAG) International School of Medicine and is a General Practitioner. He is fluent in German, English, and Spanish. Dr. Tellez is a professional virologist with several degrees in various disciplines in virology.

Join us this Tuesday, November 24th at 9:30 AM to welcome Dr. Gordillo and his team of specialists and learn more about stem cell therapy and its benefits.   To attend send an email to secretaryrotarysma@mail.com You’ll receive an email with instructions on being a part of this week’s meeting. You can also request to be on the club’s meeting mailing list at www.rotarysmamidday.org.
