You may have heard that the COVID-19 outbreak will soon peak in our community, but this week’s guest speaker says the peak is the needle in a haystack marker. With an extremely complicated virus, the idea of a true peak is tough to predict.

The Midday Rotary Club of San Miguel de Allende presents another in a series of informative presentations about the COVID-19 virus.

Our guest speaker this Tuesday is Jessica Frick-Liston with COVID-19 SMA. Jessica, along with her associate Rebecca Penn will cover the epidemiology of COVID-19, understanding the landscape in Mexico, safe practices you need to take, and what’s next.

You’ll learn what is unique about this disease, testing availability in San Miguel de Allende, safe practices you need to be doing now, and some insight into the future such as mass testing, treatments on the horizon, and the long-awaited vaccine. Jessica and Rebecca will provide you with the necessary information that you should use to arm yourself against this enemy, including debunking of false information that can easily be spread via social media.

Jessica Frick-Liston is a Registered Nurse and is certified by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. Rebecca Penn is a Ph.D. and holds a Master’s degree in public health. They have put together a very useful guide on staying home with COVID-19.

As is now our practice of social distancing, the Midday Rotary Club of San Miguel de Allende has taken to Zoom video conferencing for our weekly meetings. Using this technology will enable the club to meet on a weekly basis and still reach out to the community. Please enter next Tuesday, May 12th at 9:30 AM in your calendars for this critically important presentation about COVID-19 with Jessica Frick-Liston and Rebecca Penn.

While residents continue to self-isolate within the safety and comfort of their own homes, members of the public are still welcome to attend our meetings by sending an email to secretaryrotarysma@mail.com. You’ll receive an email with instructions on being a part of this week’s meeting. Rotary is where neighbors, friends, and problem-solvers share ideas, join leaders, and take action to create lasting change.
