Caja Negra, a professional theater company in San Miguel de Allende, has staged productions in several venues around town with great success. Now, the company is building its own home in the historic Casa de la Noche in Centro San Miguel. Leases and permits are signed and building is underway including stage, seating, lights, sound, green room and other infrastructure.

Caja Negra Performing Arts” will offer year-round, first-class entertainment presenting theater, music, dance and the spoken word as well as a Young Peoples Theater School teaching acting and stagecraft. For the first time, San Miguel will have a resident, repertory theater company with its own home

    Why another theater venue?

Alan Jordan, Artistic Director of Caja Negra, explained in a recent interview that the performance space will not be in competition with other venues, but a home for Caja Negra, where the resident theater company can freely plan, produce and perform their work without limits on rehearsals, set building, etc., found in borrowed venues. Caja Negra will also foster young, up-and-coming talent through its Young People’s Theater School.

    Grand Opening Week

Productions and galas in the new theater are coming in November!  The schedule is:

    November 13 Gala For Donors
November 14 Fund Raising Public Gala

These following three productions will run together in repertory:

    November 15 “House” Opening Night
November 17 “My Brilliant Divorce” Opening Night
November !9 “Frankie & Johnny” Opening Night

The Midday Rotary Club is delighted to present Alan Jordan, Artistic Director of Caja Negra. Mr. Jordan’s career in theater, film and television spans forty years in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Selected stage credits include starring roles at New York’s Circle Repertory Company, Manhattan Theater Club, and Playwrights Horizon, as well as Canada’s Stratford Festival and Globe Theater. He toured the United States in national companies of Applause and Shenandoah.

After his long career as a professional actor, Mr. Jordan “retired” to San Miguel where he has acted, directed and produced theater since 2013.

Join us this Tuesday, October 12 at 9:30 AM to welcome Alan Jordan and to learn more about Caja Negra’s new project.  To attend, go to the Midday Rotary Club website at www.rotarysmamidday.org and sign up.  You’ll receive an email with instructions.
