We had a wonderful dinner last night at a new-to-us restaurant called Silveyra’s.
The dinner was a private affair arranged by Don Day and featured Veracruz cuisine. Every course was delicious. The restaurant is owned by Ruben and Keli Silveyra. Keli, from Kansas, grew up around restaurants and Ruben, from Vera Cruz, was a head chef for 20 years. They planned to open a Veracruz style restaurant in Kansas City but Ruben got deported, so they came to San Miguel to make a new life. We are lucky they did. Their normal menu features real American comfort food, so we will definitely go back to try it. The photos on their website are enticing.
The restaurant is in an out-of-the-way residential area not far from the Caracol. The address is Privada de Prolongación Aldama 8, but Google Maps and most cabs will take you to the wrong location. Instead, search for the name of the restaurant rather than the address. The restaurant is at the top of a short dead-end street, so if you drive, park below on Prolongación de Aldama and walk up. They are normally open from 9-6 except Tuesdays, but will be closed for the holidays from Dec 24 to Jan 2. They reopen on the 3rd. +52 415 167 4353.
