I recently had a fall on the infamous sidewalks of San Miguel. My experience
with Hospital Joya was very good to excellent across the board.
I walked in alone, non-Spanish speaker on a Sunday at 5:30PM, the front desk was staffed with a very efficient bi-lingual check-in staff. Dr. Frida, the medical supervisor, came up and literally took me under her wing for the next 3 hours. She called in the Xray tech, while Dr. Luis Rangel was driving up from Celaya to exam and diagnose. Next day I was in surgery to re-attach a bone chip.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Hospital Joya as a first choice in any emergency situation.
True enough, the facility is still on their shakedown cruise. Hospitals are incredibly complex organizations with lots of moving parts. It takes awhile to get it all together.
Part of my background involved writing medical content and acting as liason with expats for large hospital groups in Asia, where Medical Tourism is a huge industry. For a town the size of San Miguel, we are quite fortunate to have access to these excellent physicians, and now a brand spanking new hospital facility doing their best to work with local expats.
It’s really down to the human element in receiving good medical care and reaching a satisfactory outcome… well-trained conscientious physicians are vital, but hospitals are a team effort all the way. Every link in the chain is very, very important. Nurses are as close to sainthood as any profession I know… performing myriad thankless dirty jobs… and they still must maintain vigilance at every step in hospital patient care… and that really only happens when each person has the compassion, dedication, and training together as a team effort. I’d say Joya is building toward having an excellent team.
About 2 months ago I went to La Joya at about 4am to the emergency room for care. I was met by my doctor and the night health caregivers. Although the hospital is new many or maybe all of the doctors have been there for many years. It has been remodeled and I felt like it was also modernized. I have been receiving very good care in that location for many years so I felt at home. From my emergency room treatment to my comfortable room the next night I received excellent and loving care from everyone I came in contact with. When ever I needed something there was someone at my side almost immediately. I can’t praise them enough.
Last week I had 3 procedures at Hospital Joya – colonoscopy (11,000 pesos), abdominal scan and echocardiogram. Overall it was an excellent experience. The facility is sparkling clean and well organized. The staff was professional, attentive and on top of their game. I’m consolidating all my medical needs, procedures, physicians, etc. to Hospital Joya. It’s a comfort having this resource so close to home! Cynthia Parada Camacho (PR Director) helped me navigate the system.

I took advantage of the offer to have a colonoscopy yesterday for 3000 p. This is San Miguel’s newest hospital. They’ve just opened and have a staff of wonderful people whose mandate is to get acquainted with our community, make friends and advise us about their exceptional hospital.
My entire experience was wonderful! Every person took special care, took time and got to know me. I have no memory of the procedure. The quality of the personnel is clearly a priority. Of course, this is their moment to make a good impression, and, IMO, they’re off to a good start.
I hope it will be maintained.
