  • Our monthly fees include all our therapies such as: art, occupational, physical therapy and thermal pool exercises three times a week with our certified personnel plus diapers and personal hygiene items.  Care is provided by our bilingual registered nurses and caretakers 24 hours a day in a very humane and dignified manner including three meals a day and two snacks supervised by our nutritionist.

All medical attention, evaluations and prescriptions are administrated by our staff and our resident Geriatric Physician and Medical Director, Dr. Rocio Acosta, a graduate of the University of Paris, France, which is present at our facility every day. Upon admission, the resident receives a comprehensive evaluation at which time a protocol is established which is followed and supervised by our Medical Director with daily monitoring and medical evaluation. Any medicines prescribed by our Medical Director are bought by Casa Cieneguita on a weekly basis and charged to the resident´s account or they may be brought by the family for administration. at no extra cost. Monthly payments may be done by credit cards, bank transfers or cash.

We offer outings to local parks and other interesting places to the delight shown on the faces of the residents. The residents are accompanied by Dr. Rocio Acosta Reyes as well as a group of our caregivers. At the present time this service has been suspended due to COVID19 issues but once the pandemic subsides this service will be reestablished. Celebrations such as: Thanksgiving, Christmas etc. are celebrated with special meals and decorations. We have CABLE TV, WIFI and NETFLIX available at Casa Cieneguita.

As a preventive measure, we nebulize the total facility twice a week with a product named EVITER which is an advanced sanitizer based on nanotherapy.  We have not had any case of COVID19 infection in our facility including nurses, caretakers, staff or residents!! Every time EVITER is applied its effect lasts 4 days killing bacteria, viruses, mold and germs in general !!

We have a total beauty service at the facility including nails, hair cutting, and shampoo and dying for men and women.  Also in our staff we have available: Podiatry, Psychology, Physical, Occupational and Speech  Therapists plus Radiological and Laboratory exams done in house.

The rooms are fully furnished and residents may bring any personal decoration items as pictures, paintings or memorabilia. We offer weekly laundry of linens and personal clothing. All bathroom consumables plus diapers are included in our fees. We provide a dedicated portable phone line for resident/family personal communication. The facility has radiant floors for winter heating with individual room temperature controls.

Our Medical Director, Dr. Rocio Acosta, supervises and monitors the medical condition of our residents in a continuing basis plus maintains a close relationship and communication with the resident´s family informing and answering any medical questions that they may have concerning their loved ones. Dr.. Rocio Acosta constantly updates our nursing staff on any new geriatric procedures to provide the most advanced care to our residents in their daily care, activities, therapies and administration of medicines.

Our food is hygienically prepared and supervised by our nutriologist. The products we use for the preparation of all our meals are organic from our local suppliers.

Casa Cieneguita offers accident insurance coverage with AXA Insurance Company which covers 90% of all hospitalization costs including doctors, ambulance and ancillary medical services. This insurance coverage is provided at NO extra cost to all our residents.

I think there are much better options in San Miguel and in Lake Chapala. I placed a relative there a few years ago and after their health declined significantly, transferred them recently to another memory care facility. After about 2 months, his condition improved significantly and the physicians at the new place observed that they were seriously over-medicated to an almost zombie-like state. It is run by someone who, although has experience in running a hospital, clearly lacks the compassion for his patients and has a special contempt for the relatives. Not sure that the hot water pool is operative–it was closed for years. The staff are absolutely incredible (as most Mexicans are so compassionate and attentive) but are very underpaid. They lose the best ones. I advise you to look elsewhere.

Wow !! With all due respect, I think you have your facilities confused !! Casa Cieneguita would not be full of residents if it were as bad as you say !! As they say, action speaks louder than words !!

We transferred my 95 year old mother from Cielito Lindo to Casa Cienguita in July of 2018 after interviewing with the administrator, Pierre. When we stressed during the visit that we wanted to make sure the thermal pools and exercise program in the pool was available for my mother he stated “yes of course”, twice a week. We also inquired as to the number of staff who spoke English. We were assured English was spoken, They have an exercise program 3 days a week from 10-12 and an occupational and art therapy program 2 days a week from 10-12. These are both wonderful programs and are led by wonderful contracted staff who are exceptional in their jobs. To this date, my mother (in 9 months) has never been in the thermal pools. At this time the pump is broken and there is no estimate of time as to when it will be repaired.

I do not feel there is an adequate program on the weekends and again not enough English is spoken. The staff are not self motivated or perhaps have not been instructed in the types of programs that should take place on the weekends. Doctor Acosta, a board certified gerontologist, is at the facility 5 days a week and is wonderful. She keeps great charting as to what is going on with the residents and we are able to see this anytime. She doesn’t even have her own office and sits in the “great room” with the residents. I am grateful for her wonderful care. There is also a doctor on the weekend who is young and engaging and spends time with the residents.

Finally, after speaking with other family members who were concerned because of the lack of outings, the pool and the high employee turn over we approached administration with our concerns. It has been a struggle and difficult but I feel that improvement is being made. We went on our first family outing 2 weeks ago and it was wonderful—ice cream cones for all….

The hands on care of the employees is wonderful and the cleanliness of my mothers room is wonderful. To combat the problem with the lack of English, I personally employ two caregivers who are with my mother 7 days a week, 8 hours a day, but this costs in addition to the facilities charge of $3100 an additional $1400 per month. All said and done, we spend about $5000 per month

My experience at Casa Cieneguita has been very positive. I brought my mother there for assisted living in October and the care she is receiving is significantly better than the care she was receiving in the United States. I would encourage those considering Casa Cieneguita to visit the facility, talk to the staff the residents and family members like myself before you make a judgement on the quality of their services.

My brother, who has early-onset Alzheimer’s, has been at Casa Cieneguita for over three months. The staff is terrific, the food is great (as well as healthy), and the grounds are beautiful. The activities and various forms of therapy are creative and seem genuinely fun. The family is very pleased with the care and attention our brother is getting.

The popularity of San Miguel de Allende as a haven for American and Canadian retirees is bringing about a boom of care for the elderly homes. Several have opened up in the past few years and one more opened six months ago at the La Cieneguita township just three miles west outside of the city.

Entrepreneur Pierre Lepoureau says that establishing a new full time care center for the elderly is a type of business with a great future.

“There’s a big need here for it due to the fact that there are about 10,000 people that are retired here and are in need of this type of service that we’re going to make available.”

Mr. Lapoureau, a Cuba born exile who spent 40 years in Miami managing hospitals, makes it clear that the nursing home is not a non-profit organization and that “residents will be paying the nominal fee we’ll be charging” but, when profitable, “we will have charity cases.”

Lapoureau came to SMA ten years ago to retire but over time he began noticing the shortage of facilities for the growing number of seniors who need to be taken care of.

“There are about 50 beds available at the most for this type of service in adult care living facilities. And for that matter, the one we are offering is much more advanced from what we normally find in this area.”

The project will be carried out in partnership with Dr. José (Pepe) Valencia, a well-known geriatrician who will be in charge of the medical care of residents.

Lapoureau studied medical and hospital administration in Miami.

It is official. La Casa Cieneguita opens at the end of May. This is the facility I have chosen for my husband with dementia after checking out the facilities offered in Ajijic and San Miguel de Allende. My criteria was to find a home environment with socializing and stimulating activities where Walter felt loved and part of a community. La Casa Cieneguita offers such a home that meets and surpasses my vision. It boasts a lush, country club setting with thermal waters on the grounds, even a Koi pond and organic garden. And the food is going to be delicious. They have hired a chef! All staff members are trained in a specific method of interacting / communicating with demented patients to promote a sense of well -being and dignity.”…
