From Ghost Town to Magical Town, Mineral de Pozos in Guanajuato

    Where is the town of Mineral de Pozos?
    San Pedro de Los Pozos, as it is also known, is connected to the southwest, with the magical towns of Dolores Hidalgo (highway 110) and San Miguel de Allende (highways 57 and 1), to be more precise it is located 8.8 kilometers north of the municipality of San Luis de la Paz, it is a town of only 2,856 inhabitants, which in its good times had a great mining boom until it declined, becoming a ghost town for a whole century.

    It was not until 2012 when it was declared “Magical Town of Mexico”, an appointment that led it to implement activities and tours among its mines and ruins, gaining relevance among tourists who were positioning it among the favorite destinations to visit.

    What can you do in Mineral de Pozos?

    • Among the activities that you can do during your visit are the tours through some of the mines where you will be accompanied by a guide and learn about the work performed by the settlers.
    • Another of the sites that stand out is the lavender fields, which will give you charming scenery to take some colorful pictures, the most recommended dates for your visit are during the months of July and August.
    • Tour its cobblestone streets aboard an ATV, which can be rented at the main town center.

    It is worth mentioning that this place, known as a ghost town, was abandoned twice since its foundation. Today it is reborn as people come from far away places and the descendants of the old miners rescue the old houses, squares, and alleys.

    In the surroundings, the centenary vestiges of the mines and haciendas of benefit remember the richness of the argentiferous and auriferous veins. And, from the deep tunnels, you can hear the rumors of the legends and stories of this semi-desert land.
