In March 2020, a group of volunteers began making cloth masks and donating or offering them at cost across the San Miguel (SMA) community.  Since then, over 14,000 masks have been distributed to charitable organizations, ranchos, communities and individuals across SMA by our completely non-profit group.

While our group has not formally sought donations since our inception, we are seeking your support now so we may continue to employ our nearly 20 local seamstresses,  many of whom depend on this income to support their families. All indicators suggest that the demand for masks will extend well into 2021 and now does not seem like the time to scale back the work of our seamstresses or to shut down for lack of funds.

The World Health Organization has set out very specific guidelines for making masks that can effectively protect members of the public.  Masks should be 3 layers, with polyester on the outside, a non-woven electrostatic filter (polypropylene) in the middle and cotton on the inside facing the face.  All Masks 4 U masks meet these standards.

If you wish to obtain any quantity of masks and are able to pick them up in our El Paraiso community, please e-mail me at chrismsma@gmail.com.  I’ll give them to you for a donation of 40 pesos each, or any amount above that you may choose to donate.  That’s 10 pesos per mask above our actual costs. PayPal donations may be made at rexmccaskill@gmail.com

You can see examples of our masks on our Facebook page at Masks4U-SMA.

We appreciate your support of our efforts and hope to be serving our community as long as we are needed.

    Sincerely,
    Chris McCaskill
