  • To educate girls is to reduce poverty.

Mujeres en Cambio had 50 graduates in 2019-20.

17 University and 33 High School students
    have made us very proud.

This year’s 50 University and High School graduates hale from 16 villages in the rural areas of San Miguel.

More than half of their parent’s have an Elementary School education, or less. Some none. Only 8 parents went to High School.

Most of their parents who worked prior to Covid-19 were maids and laborers.

Many of our graduates come from large families – 10 have 5 or more siblings – 1 has 13.

These families value education. 11 of our graduates have sisters who are Mujeres en Cambio students or alumni.

Our graduates excel. 40% of our High School and 88% of our University graduates are “A” students.

Thankfully, we have even more good news to share!

In July and August we were finally able to meet with our students to give them the April beca (scholarship) distributions that had been postponed due to Covid-19. We are happy to announce that we were able to distribute the money safely and securely.

Pre Covid Becas Feb 2020         Post Covid Becas Aug 2020

Mexico is back to school this week. On August 3, 2020 it was announced that all schools would operate remotely with classes being offered online, on TV and radio.Everyone needs to contend with this strange new virtual world and the volunteers at Mujeres en Cambio have already created new plans to adapt to that world for the 2020-21 school year.

With so many parents out of work it is more crucial than ever that we continue to supply our becas to ensure that our students stay in school. Fees at all school levels are still being charged, despite classes being given virtually. Other than money,we think we are well prepared to meet the Covid challenges. For the money, we need your help!

Please Also Consider Making a Charitable Donation through a QCD
If you are 70-½  or older, you are eligible to make a Qualified Charitable Donation (QCD). This a direct transfer of funds from your IRA custodian, payable to a qualified charity such as Mujeres en Cambio. The main benefit of making a QCD is that the amount donated is excluded from taxable income, which is unlike regular withdrawals from an IRA. Keeping your taxable income lower may reduce the impact to certain tax credits and deductions, including Social Security and Medicare.

For additional information about QCDs, please speak with your tax adviser.
And finally …………………….AmazonSmile – the same Amazon you know donates 0.5% of the price of your purchases to the charitable organization of your choice. Please support Mujeres en Cambio by making them your choice. Buy through smile.amazon.com and shop as you normally do.
