  • TravelPulse takes on Mexico’s charming cobblestoned city of San Miguel de Allende for their first ever LGBTQ-focused press trip! Over the course of the next three days we will be participating in numerous LGBTQ-friendly activities and will be getting acquainted with all that the city and its surroundings have to offer.

“LGBTQ travelers have made San Miguel del Allende their hidden Mexican destination for years. Like all of our visitors, the city is attractive because of its natural beauty, its authentic culture, its cuisine, its art scene, and its vibe,” said Carlos Lopez Florez, San Miguel de Allende’s US PR Representative.

“We are an extremely friendly city. When visitors come to San Miguel they are family and we welcome everyone. The LGBTQ community feels that. We offer a sophisticated destination that can offer premium experiences.”

Miguel de Allende is a charming, hilly colonial town located about 270 KM northwest of Mexico City. Although in danger of becoming a ghost town at the beginning of the 20th century, today the town is a thriving colourful city thanks to its booming art and gastronomy scene. The city itself is quite picturesque, adorned with

sprawling Bougainvillea flowers, large old wooden doors and quaint cobblestone streets that captivated the hearts of all who visit.

One of the main draws for travelers to San Miguel de Allende are the numerous cultural festivals that happen throughout the year as well as its beautiful colonial Spanish architecture. In 2008 the city received two UNESCO World Heritage site designations for the protected town of San Miguel and the Sanctuary of Jesús Nazareno de Atotonilco – a must see when visiting.

“San Miguel del Allende is unique in Mexico. The Cradle of Independence – there is a revolutionary feel about the city. History, Mexican culture of the region and a thirst for innovation keeps San Miguel de Allende alive and on a continuous reinvention”, Mr. Lopez Flores went on to say.

Beyond the city of San Miguel de Allende you can find a sprawling landscape of farmland and vineyards – a huge resource for local organic ingredients needed to satisfy the city’s ever-expanding gastronomic palette. In recent years the Guanajuato region has made a big effort to develop and expand its local wine industry and we are very excited to be able to visit one of these vineyards while here.

Other actives we are scheduled to experience include a hot air balloon ride, a walking tour of the historic city centre, a pastry class, a visit to a local textile factory, and numerous dining options.

“San Miguel del Allende cuisine is fresh. We have many farms in and out of the city that supply our restaurants daily. Most ingredients you have at our restaurants come directly from our local vendors. San Miguel del Allende wineries are pretty recent compared to their counterparts on the west side of the country but are rapidly growing in reputation.”

“We are excited to be able to present this to the world. We are also one of the few states that can grow and harvest Tequila. One of our more famous brands is Tequila Dragones which has opened a private tasting location in town!” Mr. Lopez Flores exclaimed with a proud smile.

During our time here in San Miguel de Allende we will be staying at Hotel La Morada, a lovely boutique hotel with 26 rooms, 6 of which are suites. The hotel is perfectly located steps away from the city’s main square where many historic monuments, restaurant and boutique shops can be found. The hotel itself is situated in what was once a typical colonial house and although re-modelled, still maintains much of its historic charm. Ideal for families and small groups, the hotel’s petite occupancy insures a more ‘home away from home’ experience for all who visit.

Stay tune for more exciting trip updates in the next couple days!!
