San Miguel de Allende, Gto. – Treating people with gender equity, avoiding stereotypes and re-victimization, are the main objectives of the Basic Gender Workshop given by the Director of the Municipal Institute for Women’s Affairs (IMAM), Cinthya Sifuentes, aimed at the 14 future transit elements.

“For the transits to graduate, we instruct them with a gender perspective, which is stereotypes, gender perspective, inequality, because in the end they have to treat men and women in the same way,” said Sifuentes Garcia.

For three generations, the awareness workshop has been given to traffic students who are about to complete their municipal road program at Police Training Center Number 5. On this occasion, the group is made up of 7 women and 7 men.

The future road agents are given information in a dynamic way with an oral trial, in which they are the judges and the direct and indirect victims are exemplified how easy it is to stereotype victims simply because they are women or men.

“Issues such as: women are bad drivers or weak, or can’t handle traffic; when some authority is given, ingrained gender stereotypes come out in the trials. In traffic our job is that, they have to judge man or woman with the same rules and the same rights,” said the IMAM director.

The workshop lasts three hours, during which audiovisual material created by IMAM is shared with the participants. To corroborate that the elements learned, they are part of a fictitious trial.
