The House and Garden tour began some 50 years ago. It is one of the Biblioteca programs that funds the continued effort to offer over 100 scholarships to students each year. Every Sunday, House and Garden tour takes visitors to see two homes. The first step in planning the tour begins with contacting the homeowners to ask for access to their home and grounds. The tour is of particular interest to visitors who most likely have come to San Miguel to see the colonial city in all its glory; a visit to one of the historical, colonial-style houses is truly a unique experience.

Tours are conducted every Sunday, heading out from Biblioteca at 12 p.m. and concluding at 2 p.m. The cost of the tour includes a welcome with live music and appetizers, after which visitors are transported to the selected homes. The tour has 48 houses available for viewing so far, with most of them in the center of the city. There are some farther away like in Cieneguita, Salida a Querétaro, and other areas, and these are all accessible with the free transportation included in the tour price.

If you are looking for a private tour outside of the city, you can make arrangements as well. House and Garden offers small-group tours to the city of Guanajuato, Peña de Bernal, Teotihuacán and Cañada de la Virgen. These private tours are available any day of the week, with transportation in a private vehicle that is sanitized before and after each trip by a company called MBMX. If you are interested in any of these tours, you can contact them online at:  giras@bibliotecapublica.org or by phone 415 140 7440. You can also obtain information in person at the Tesoros shop adjacent to the Biblioteca at Insurgentes 45.
