  • Every year more than one billion children worldwide experience some form of violence.   Violence against children is both a human rights violation and a challenge for global public health. Social and economic development suffer while incurring huge costs for both individuals and society.

The Midday Rotary Club of San Miguel de Allende puts a spotlight on this major problem confronting our youth with an important presentation by Patricia Greer who will provide information about the Global Partnership to End Violence Against Children.  Ms. Greer is a Certified Trauma Recovery Counselor who lived and worked with Canada’s Indigenous Peoples in remote communities for 25 years.

The Global Partnership offers an opportunity for governments, United Nations agencies, international organizations, civil society, faith groups, the private sector, philanthropic foundations, researchers and academics, and children themselves, to work together to prevent and respond to violence against children. The participation of children and youth to influence decision-making is fundamental to their work.

At the forefront of this movement are Pathfinding Countries – nations committed to accelerating achievement of the Global Partnership’s goals. Mexico, as a Pathfinding Country, has adopted the General Law of the Rights of Girls, Boys, and Adolescents (Ley General de los Derechos de Niñas, Niños y Adolescentes) and has established an End Violence National Action Plan.

Over 1000 children will experience violence or abuse in the time it takes to read this article.  It is all of our jobs to promote and strengthen the Global Partnership.

Join Midday Rotary Club of San Miguel on Tuesday, July 10 at 12:30 PM when Patricia Greer will present an overview of the Global Partnership and how we in San Miguel can align with this initiative to assist in co-creating the massive social change needed to end violence. The meeting is at the Hotel Mission on Salida a Queretaro.  Parking is free and the hotel is easily accessible by bus.
