  • During this strange and challenging time, when most theaters remain closed, SMA Podcast has been inviting actors to the stage of the San Miguel Playhouse to record episodes for a new bilingual literary program. It’s called the Parnassus Project / Projecto Parnassus. Season I will feature 10 great works of short fiction — 5 in Spanish and 5 in English; and interviews with two distinguished authors. New episodes will be added weekly.

    Durante este tiempo desafiante y extraño, cuando la mayoría de los teatros permanecen cerrados, SMA Podcast ha estado invitando a los actores al escenario del teatro San Miguel Playhouse para grabar episodios de un nuevo programa literario bilingüe, llamado Proyecto Parnassus. La temporada I contará con 10 importantes historias cortas – 5 en español y 5 en inglés – junto con las entrevistas de dos autoras destacadas. Se agregarán nuevos episodios semanalmente.

    Week 1 consists of the short story “La Tía Daniela,” by Ángeles Mastretta, read in Spanish by Josefina Valentini; “Miriam,” by Truman Capote, read in English by Phoebe Greyson; and an interview with American-Mexican poet and novelist Jennifer Clement, the first woman president of PEN International.

    La primera semana incluye la narración de Ángeles Mastretta, “La Tía Daniela”, interpretada por Josefina Valentini; “Miriam”, de Truman Capote, por Phoebe Greyson; y una entrevista con la poeta y novelista estadounidense-mexicana Jennifer Clement, la primera mujer presidenta de PEN International.

    Future episodes for Season I will include short fiction by Rosario Castellanos, Ambrose Bierce, Gabriel García Márquez, Anton Chekhov, Lucia Berlin, Katherine Anne Porter, Eduardo Galeano, and John Cheever, read respectively by Daniela Contreras, William Slusser, Erik Zavala, Henrietta Weekes, Marcela Brondo, Marjorie Burren, Erando Gonzales (courtesy of CNT/FONCA), and Richard Fink; and an interview in Spanish with playwright/activist Mónica Hoth.
