San Miguel de Allende has a stray dog and cat problem! It is estimated that unspayed female dogs and their offspring can produce up to 67,000 puppies in six years. In six years one female cat and her offspring will produce 11,606,077 kittens. Of these animals 70 percent will suffer alone on the streets of Mexico’s cities and towns.

Mexico spends millions of taxpayer dollars each year coping with problems that a failure to spay and neuter cause. Amigos de Animales’ cost per dog or cat of US$15 for spaying or neutering is far lower than the expense involved in rounding up strays, feeding and housing abandoned animals, and euthanizing those for whom homes can’t be found.

Amigos de Animales, a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, is celebrating its twentieth anniversary. It currently serves 20 communities in and around San Miguel and has spayed or neutered well over 23,000 animals in the last 20 years. Amigos de Animales is funded solely by donations and is strictly a volunteer organization. One hundred percent of your monetary donations will go to purchasing supplies for our mobile clinics, our All-Day Blitzes, and replacing our mobile clinic. All item donations such as leashes, food, and medicine will go directly to our clients and their pets and rescue organizations that help find homes for these lost souls. It’s our twentieth anniversary! Celebrate with us by helping prevent unwanted dog and cat births.

Our goal this year, in addition to continuing our Spay and Neuter Free Clinics and our All-Day Spay and Neuter Blitzes, is to replace our mobile clinic. Despite lots of efforts to keep it running, Amigos has had to resort to hiring van drivers to load up our medical supplies and drive to the communities we serve. This is cost prohibitive! Please say you will be a part of the solution by making a gift of a gently used mobile home or van or a monetary of any amount you can afford to donate.

Spay and neutering are the keys to animal homelessness. This is your chance to say, “I won’t let these animals suffer. I am a part of the solution!” For more information and contact information for Amigos de Animales, please visit our website at amigos-sma.org
