  • May 10th is Lady Zen’s birthday and every year they strive to do something spectacular to celebrate the women who helped raise the voice and person they are today.

This year is no different. Sunday is a big “red circle” day of celebration.

In the afternoon,  three top female voices in San Miguel: Keila Tonello, Liah Alonso, and Lady Zen collaborate with Gil Gutierrez for a Mothers Day Concert at Zandunga. There might be a few stray tickets available at the ticket office on Friday between 10a-3pm at 129 Herandez Marcias, but no guarantees–because these three powerhouses sell-out shows on their own and together– there was an explosion of interest with fans making reservations well in advance. Their harmonies will soar in this new before seen collaboration, that they are calling, “The Divines,” which has a lot of positive, electric, joyful anticipation surrounding it. A divine celebration of feminine power for Mother’s Day.

If you didn’t get tickets for that…we have a special presentation from Lady Zen who will be celebrating their birthday on Sunday evening Zandunga afterparty at the La Dona Rooftop.  Lady Zen does not disappoint with guest musicians gracing San Miguel. Zen brought us Mark Hartman, Dwight Blake, Keith Tynes, and now–Spencer Day!  He is a songwriter and pianist who will be performing for his dear friend, Lady Zen’s birthday. What a treat!
    .
On top of being a devilishly handsome young man with a smooth, thick, soulful vocal swagger like the most charming crooners on the charts like Harry Connick Jr, Michael Bubble, Vic Damone; Spencer Day is a member of the wildly popular group, Post Modern Jukebox and is a #1 Billboard jazz/pop singer and songwriter seen everywhere from Lincoln Center to the Hollywood Bowl.
    .
Tickets are available now at La Dona for 200 pesos.  Call 415 688 3131. The show is at 7 pm but the doors will open for general seating at 5pm. Table reservations are encouraged!
    .
This is an introductory price to see Spencer and to witness his incredible talent and style. The guest list for this party is for the elite of San Miguel and you can be a part of it. Call for reserved seating, already 25 tickets have been reserved of 60. The rainy season in San Miguel is fast approaching but there is a rain backup plan, so don’t worry you won’t get soaked.

Spencer’s first collaboration with Postmodern Jukebox is approaching 2.5 million views on YouTube and counting.  His 2018 indie release Angel City – recorded will full orchestra at Capitol Studios – spawned two hit singles: People.com premiered the video to the first single, “72 and Sunny,” which you can watch HERE. He also performed the single on New York’s Fox 5 TV, which you can watch HERE. A special remix of the song, which was put into rotation by Sirius XM Chill and featured in DJ Kygo’s “Palm Tree Summer Playlist,” is available on Apple Music here. The album’s second single, “Angel City,” was the #1 Most Added track from the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Chart, in addition to being #1 Most Added track on the Groove Jazz Music Chart. When he was recording with Concord, his earlier album Vagabond peaked at #11 on the Billboard Album Chart and stayed on the chart for 47 weeks. The lead single, “Til You Come To Me,” peaked at #3 was played on national radio and late-night on CBS-TV (watch HERE). His recent album, Daybreak, debuted at #1 on the iTunes Jazz Chart.

Lady Zen is a featured performer at the San Miguel Playhouse and is represented by Boleto City ticket agency here in San Miguel. Zen has been finding encouragement and support from La Dona to host shows during the pandemic and will be programing upcoming events for the venue where you will be able to see incredible musicians in an open-air venue overlooking the city. You may have seen the recent post from Susan Knight York (www.cupcakesandcrablegs.com) about the Keith Tynes Show at La Dona this week or on Ria Talken’s www.ourprimeoflife.com featured article. Brightly colored photos and described the show as, “…the best up close and personal performance we’ve seen in Mexico; Lady Zen at her absolute best.”

We thank DiscoverSMA for all its support where you will find the best of the best listings for events in San Miguel. If it is not here it’s not listed on DiscoverSMA, it’s not worth knowing about.
