Escape to the Country: Artist Home, Studio, and Gallery Tour

Bring your camera! The jaw-dropping homes and landscapes, studios, shops, and galleries we will visit create an unforgettable San Miguel experience. This unique outing highlights the genius of artists, architects, and designers. This will be the final tour of the spring season.

Our first stop will be to tour of the most unusual home and gallery in all of Mexico, Made by Anado, where the owners share the stories behind each memorable building, staircase, wall, and installation. These stories give us a glimpse of the heart connections between their creations and their lives, loves, and travels. The artist and his partner are as colorful as the place they call home. You may not believe your eyes.

At our next stop, we will explore a second extraordinary home in a spectacularly lush  setting. This property has been featured in multiple books and shows on architecture and design. One of the two shopping stops we will make is at Trip Advisor’s #1 San Miguel shopping destination: Galeria Atotonilco, featuring world-renown folk art. The owners of the 6,000 sq. ft. gallery travel several times each year to purchase the best folk art directly from the artisans who live all over Mexico, Guatemala, Panama, Columbia and beyond— often in remote villages whose residents seldom, if ever, see a tourist. These buying trips sustain the artistic traditions specific to each village or region. The owner of the gallery spent nearly three decades as a working studio artist, developing a discerning eye and deep respect for the families who produce artisan-quality craft and design.

You may add an optional, no-cost tour extension to explore the region’s most comprehensive arts complex: Fábrica la Aurora.

Thanks again for the wonderful tour of artist homes and galleries.                         Everything was spectacular and delightful. – Carol Peyser

This tour often sells out. Purchase your ticket today.

Tour proceeds provide funds for reading programs for young children in local indigenous villages. The tour is led by Maia Williams, San Miguel Writers’ Conference co-director.
