    ‘THE DRAWER BOY’

    March 26, 27, 28
    7:00 pm

    St. Paul’s Anglican Church

Critics have lavished so much praise on the Canadian prize winning play “The Drawer Boy” by Michael Healey, that it is difficult to choose only a few quotes.  “Amusing and sensitive”, “Touches the mind and heart in equal measure.  Funny and deeply affecting”, “A wonderful play – a must see”, “Humorous and heart warming”, “Destined to become a classic” – these are just a few examples of the reviewers reactions.  After winning  just about every theatre award available in Canada, “The Drawer Boy” went on to win the Helen Hayes award in the U.S. and was included in Time Magazine’s list of the ten best plays of 2001.

Partially based on actual 1972 events, the play relates what happens when an ambitious young actor, looking for material to write a play, plants himself upon a farm run by two middle aged bachelors.  While his complete ineptitude at performing the most mundane farm chores provides comic relief, his presence eventually sheds light on long buried secrets and ultimately changes the farmers’ lives forever.

Jim Wright and Jim Purdy, a visiting Canadian actor, will play the two farmers and David Galitsky will read the ambitious young actor.  Lights and sound will be handled by Dic Simandl.  Lola Smith directs.

“The Drawer Boy” will be presented on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, March 26, 27 and 28 in the Parish Hall of St.Paul’s Episcopal Church.  Performances begin at 7:30 PM or earlier if the house is full.  Doors open at 7:00 PM.  A 30 peso donation is requested.
