First Friday Sing-a-long with Judith Jenya
and music by Jordan Saturen
We invite you to join us for a lively musical Shabbat service. We will honor the traditions of Judaism by using familiar and contemporary poetry, songs, stories and other readings. You will be invited to join in the singing and share in the readings. We are a welcoming non-denominational eclectic Jewish congregation that shares the Sabbath on each First Friday of the month (however we will meet the second Friday in November, Nov. 9).
This service has welcomed many since it began in January 2017 and hopes to welcome more people seeking a way to be part of a Jewish community that resonates with their lives today in San Miguel.
We begin our Shabbat gathering with a “meet and greet Oneg” at 5:30pm. The Service itself begins at 6:00 and concludes by 7:00 pm (in time for your evening plans.)
Services are led by Judith Jenya, a life-long explorer of various Jewish paths and former director of a large Reform synagogue in northern California. She has led various types of services and shared in many around the world. Judith has been the co-leader of Frist Friday live services since Jan 2017 and gives the drash, or short inspirationanl talk based on the Torah each service.
Joining her is our songleader, Jordan Saturen. Jordan enjoyed playing with a group of musicians in a monthly musical Shabbat service for over 14 years at Temple Emek Shalom in Ashland, Oregon. There he sang and played clarinet, flute, piano and percussion. He is now living in San Miguel with his wife, who is a native of this town, and their two sons.
Both Judith and Jordan were married in San Miguel Allende under a chuppah, Jordan in 2000 and Judith in 2011.
We look forward to your heartfelt participation. We are building a community and making a spiritual home for non-denominational Jews and those who may not have participated in other Jewish observances and traditions in San Miguel.
First Friday Live usually happens the first Friday of the month at the JC3 (the Jewish Community & Cultural Center), Las Moras #47 at the corner of Cinco de Mayo, in Colonia Allende. All are welcome!
