Feast of Saint Anthony of Padua. The second most important saint in San Miguel receives his due today. Nightly fireworks for a week or more lead up to the day.
Saint Anthony of Padua, also known as Saint Anthony the Wonder-Worker, may receive more prayers than any other Catholic saint, with the obvious exception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. A priest and Doctor of the Church(named so by Pope Pius XII in 1946 in honor of his preaching, which had earned him the title “Hammer of Heretics”), Saint Anthony is best known today as the patron saint of lost items—or, as he is sometimes whimsically called, “the patron saint of lost and found.”
