  • Inauguratión: Javier Areán + Agustín González
    Friday 21 December 2018, 6pm

    YAM Gallery
Instituto Allende Ancha de San Antonio 20

Come and join us for an inauguration cocktail with the artists
    Javier Areán and Agustín González
Both will show their latest series of paintings.

YAM Galley is an art project located in Central Mexico focusing on contemporary art. Situated in the historical Instituto Allende building (18th Century), the exhibitions stand in stark contrast with the baroque structure in which they are housed, with its bold representation of established and up-and-coming artists from Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Canada and France.

Javier Areán’s painting delves into memory and materializes remembrance. Whether personal or historical, recalls emerge sometimes with great clarity (the floral pattern on the curtains of our childhood’s home), and sometimes it is more diffuse (was it summer or autumn?). In Areán’s paintings, the different levels of precision in memory appears in the adjacency of details and stains; the scene can also be clearly depicted but is out of shot; the colors are faded down, as if in an old family picture. Indeed Areán borrows to cinema a certain treatment of image resulting in a latent melancholy. His series “Crónicas del desorden” (Chronicles of disarray) is actually very narrative. Together with him we go back and forth from memory to reality, we intend on making the focus between past and present, and Areán’s paintings, far from losing accuracy, seem more real to our sensibility.

Agustín González on his side will show his new series of paintings titled “Nómada”. Since Mexico City earthquake on the 19th of September 2017, Agustín has become a “Nómada”: his studio downtown has been used since then as a home to some friends and their families who lost their house. Pushed out of his studio, Agustín took advantage of the situation and decided to travel. He has been painting on the go since then: Japan, Germany, Chile and back to Mexico. His series of small transportable format of acrylic on canvas are to be seen as a travel log.

This exhibition will also be the first inauguration of a new section of the gallery: the window on the Ancha de San Antonio will be used to present the work of an artist, asked to produce a “site-specific” piece. Danilo Filtrof, artist, curator and director of the very cutting-edge contemporary art projects “Museo Insular” and “Proyecto Showroom” will be the first to show in “Escaparate”.
