  • Timba Meets Jazz:
    An All-Star Concert with
Gil Gutiérrez, Gabriel Hernández and Carlos Averhoff

    Saturday, November 23

    Teatro Angela Peralta
    6:00 pm

    TICKETS

Call it a jazz all-star night.

Guitarist Gil Gutiérrez has been a soloist with symphony orchestras in the United States, performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City with trumpet legend Doc Severinsen, and toured Latin America, Spain, and Mexico with pop stars Francisco Céspedes, Ana Gabriel, and Pedro Guerra.

Cuban-born jazz pianist Gabriel Hernández has performed with the likes of Chick Corea, Ray Charles, and Paquito D’Rivera. Listening to him play for the first time, Herbie Hancock called Hernández the best pianist previously unknown to him “that I have ever heard.”

Cuban saxophonist Carlos Averhoff, Jr., nominated for a Grammy for his work with the Buena Vista Social Club, is considered one of the leading names in a new generation of Cuban jazz artists. Averoff is a pioneering force in a rhythmically sophisticated, energetic Cuban dance form known as timba, a fusion of Afro-Cuban folkloric music, American funk, and salsa.

Combine those talents with a top-flight backing band, and you have an unforgettable evening of music.

Courtesy of the San Miguel Festival de Música de Cámara, Maestro Hernández will be performing on the festival’s nine-foot Steinway D concert grand.

Reserved-seat tickets may be purchased online by clicking either of the “Buy Tickets Online” buttons in this email newsletter; or at boletocity.com; or for cash or credit/debit card at Boleto City, Mercado Sano, Monday through Saturday, 11am to 5pm.
