Dwight Blake / Memories of Motown
March 28, 29, 30
7:00 pmSan Miguel Playhouse
“We were not only making music, we were making history,” observed Smokey Robinson, whose band The Miracles was the first act signed by the Detroit label that would soon come to be known as Motown Records. The Motown Sound, a blend of African-American soul music and mainstream pop, helped break down racial barriers in a recording industry that had kept its chart listings segregated throughout most of its history. Between 1961 and 1971, Motown had well over a hundred Top Ten hits, from artists such as Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, Diana Ross & The Supremes, The Four Tops, The Jackson 5, and Jr Walker & The All Stars.
Motown songs have never lost their mainstream appeal, and tribute concerts built around the label’s rich catalog are commonplace, though they vary widely in quality. Dwight Blake, an international touring and recording artist born in Montego Bay, Jamaica, has put together one of the most polished and professional Motown tribute shows to date. He calls it Memories of Motown, and Blake is bringing it to San Miguel for three nights only, Thursday, March 28 to Saturday, March 30, at the San Miguel Playhouse, Avenida Independencia 82. All three shows start at 7pm. He’ll be appearing with his chosen backing band, the Groove Brothers. Reserved-seat tickets for Memories of Motown are 400 pesos for center section seats, and 350 pesos for the sides sections, on sale at Boleto City, on the second floor of the Mercado Sano, Ancha de San Antonio 123, Monday through Saturday, 11am to 5pm.
Tickets can also be purchased online by clicking any of the “Buy Tickets Online” buttons in this newsletter, or by visiting boletocity.com.

Last night we saw this awesome show and were so glad we went! Dwight Blake sang the Temps, Stevie, 4 Tops, Lionel, BB King, Chi-lutes, Smokey and so much more. Tonight is the last night. We were dancing in the aisles!
Ten of us went last night and ALL of us agreed it was a GREAT show and not to be missed. The performer, Dwight Blake was spot on with his signing and dancing and the band was excellent. There are two more performances, one Friday night and one on Saturday night.
And as an incredible surprise, Dwight reached way beyond Motown with his closing number which had the audience stunned and elicited a second standing ovation. Don’t want to give it away but you will love it! Support the theater but mostly go for a great performance and a wonderful evening!
