Life Stories will be featured at the next Prose Café

Please join us, live via Zoom, for Prose Café’s second event of the season, October 1, 5 to 6PM Central Time. Our featured writers will be Angie Abdou, Cynthia Claus, and the wonderful Dinty Moore, and their stories will range from Mexico to Canada to Richard Nixon! We’ll end with a short but stimulating question and answer session with our authors. The event is free, but donations are gratefully accepted.

The legendary Dinty W. Moore is author of the memoir Between Panic & Desire as well as the writing guides The Story Cure and Crafting the Personal Essay, among many other books. He has published essays and stories in The Georgia Review, Harper’s, The New York Times Magazine, The Southern Review, and elsewhere. He is founding editor of Brevity, the journal of flash nonfiction, and teaches master classes and workshops across the United States as well as in Ireland, Scotland, Spain, Switzerland, and at the San Miguel Writers’ Conference. (Check out his upcoming workshop at the Conference, The Art of Vivid Description.)

Angie Abdou is the author of seven books. Her first novel, The Bone Cage, was a finalist on CBC’s Canada Reads. Angie’s first memoir, Home Ice: Reflections of a Reluctant Hockey Mom, hit the Canadian bestseller list.  Booklist declared it a “first rate memoir.” Her follow-up book, This One Wild Life: A Mother-Daughter Wilderness Memoir, will be released April 2021. Angie will be teaching at this year’s San Miguel Writer’s Conference, including the memoir workshop, “How Much Truth is Too Much Truth? Honesty in Memoir.” She is an Associate Professor of Creative Writing at Athabasca University.

Cynthia Claus has photographed and blogged about her world travels since 2005. In 2017, Cynthia published her first book, An Orchid Sari: The Personal Dairy of an American Mom in 1960s India, which chronicled the trip she, her Indian husband, and their two-year-old son made to present themselves to their Indian relatives. Her next book, Ice Cream & Pretzels and Other Stories: A Memoir (2018), revisits her life with her family of origin. Her third book, A Lifetime to Get Here: San Miguel de Allende, is forthcoming later this year.
