Every family has secrets, some almost unspeakable, some seemingly small. When such secrets are explored by skilled writers, the result is fascinating stories and poems. On Thursday, October 13, Prose and Poetry Cafés are thrilled to feature Dianne Romaine, Ken Morrow, and Sterling Bennett reading their work live and in-person at Café Murmullo. This event will be in their covered open-air courtyard, from 5PM to 6PM, and the authors will have books for sale. We encourage you to arrive early; seating is limited.

Dianne Romaine is a former Sonoma State University philosophy professor turned fiction writer. Her first book, Thinking Things Through, was a critical thinking textbook. In Guanajuato, where she lives with novelist Sterling Bennett, she took up the trumpet as research for her debut novel, The Trumpet Lesson (She Writes Press, 2019). Her current writing projects, also set in Guanajuato, include short stories and a second novel. Visit her at https://dianneromain.com
Ken Morrow retired to San Miguel in 2006 from a fifty-year career in architecture. Ken’s writing includes short stories, flash fiction, program notes for classical music performances, as well as poetry. Ken will have two poems published in the Fall issue of the journal La Presa, and two more in the Spring issue. His first collection of poetry is titled Uncertainty Principle, and he is at work on a second manuscript tentatively titled Evidence.

Before moving to Mexico with Dianne Romaine twenty years ago, Sterling Bennett taught German, Global Studies, Latin, and Homeric Greek at Sonoma State University. A 2011 finalist for the prestigious Flannery O’Connor Short Fiction Award, he has published a collection of stories as well as multiple well-reviewed novels based in Mexico. Café Murmullo has delicious drinks (including coffee, beer, and wine) as well as tasty food available for purchase. Admission to the event is free, with a suggested donation of $100 pesos (although any amount is gratefully accepted). Donations support the San Miguel Literary Sala and San Miguel Prose and Poetry Cafés, all-volunteer organizations that present local and visiting writers, both established and emerging.
