Our Good Name (Arch Street Press, 2022), a new historical novel by Catherine Marenghi, is a remarkable story of a Northern Italian family that leaves their beloved Apennine village in the 1890s to find a better life in the gritty, industrial heart of Massachusetts. Driven by hunger and a search for a better life, they find bigotry, social unrest, deadly labor union strikes, the scandalous trial of their neighbor Nicola Sacco, and a world they could never have anticipated.
A native of Massachusetts, granddaughter of Italian immigrants, Catherine Marenghi is the author of the historic fiction Our Good Name (Arch Street Press, 2022), Glad Farm: A Memoir (Tate Publishing, 2016) and Breaking Bread: Poems (Finishing Line Press, 2020). She brings to all her writing a poet’s lyricism and the clear eyes of a journalist. Her award-winning poetry appears in literary journals in the U.S. and internationally. In addition to her memoir, novel, and poetry, she has also ghost-written two nonfiction works.
Catherine writes with a profound sense of place and a fascination with the power of house, home and family bonds. A graduate of Tufts University with an MA, BA Summa Cum Laude in English, she divides her time between Mexico and Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
