Sam Donaldson to Speak in San Miguel

    By Susan Page

Legendary ABC news anchor Sam Donaldson will present a talk entitled “Rambling Through Washington: Fifty-two years of the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” in the Real de Minas ballroom on January 29 at 5:00 PM. He was the Chief White House Correspondent for three presidents where he pioneered a provocative style of questioning, and he co-anchored the ABC magazine program “Prime Time Live” with Diane Sawyer.

Appearing on the same program to open the evening will be award-winning National Geographic photojournalist, Alison Wright. She has traveled to over 150 countries documenting endangered cultures while covering issues concerning the human condition. Her photographs are breathtaking!

Sam Donaldson was a news reporter based in Washington from February1961 to October 2013, and was employed by ABC News from 1967 to 2013. He covered every presidential election during that time beginning in 1964, with the campaign of Barry Goldwater. He covered the war in Vietnam and the First Gulf War, he was ABC’s Watergate Correspondent, was Chief White House Correspondent covering presidents Carter, Reagan and Clinton. In addition to co-anchoring the ABC magazine program “Prime Time Live” with Diane Sawyer, he -anchored the Sunday program “This Week with Sam Donaldson and Cokie Roberts and was the founding anchor of “Politics Live,” the first regularly scheduled Monday through Friday news program in the United States on the Internet. His awards include four Emmys, two Peabodys and the Edward R. Murrow Award.

Alison Wright has spent a lifetime traveling to all corners of the globe documenting indigenous cultures. She was on assignment in Laos when, on January 2, 2000, her life was nearly cut short during a devastating bus accident on a remote jungle road. Alison sat right at the point of impact and suffered massive injuries once pulled from the burning bus. It would be more than fourteen-hours before she received any real medical care. She managed to survive but when airlifted back to the States was told she would most likely never walk again. Alison’s response was to declare that she was going to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, a goal she reached two years after the accident. She has since returned to the career she loves, as an intrepid and peripatetic visual storyteller.

In her photo presentation, “Learning to Breathe,” Alison will share lessons learned through her images and stories from around the world, based on her best-selling memoir of the same name.
