When talking about the Mexican Independence Movement, the first name people remembers is of course father Miguel Hidalgo, but when the list continues you hear Morelos, Guerrero, and many more before our hero.

Allende, the man who is considered by many historians as the true and only beginner of the Independence, has suffered with the official history and has been placed in a way as one of many, when the thing is that he could be the chosen one.

A militia at the service of a local creole elite

In San Miguel is widely known for these days lots of events, parades and concerts happen to honor the greatest son of town Capitan Allende. Events that include many references to ”Los Dragones de la Reyna” the local provincial regiment supposedly created to protect the Spanish territories from an eventual invasion by the British. However it was a militia under the service of a creole elite which Ignacio Allende belong, first as tenant and later as captain.

So in San Miguel there’s a marching band with this name, and a tequila brand “Casa Dragones” in such a way dragons are culturally important for locals and residents.
