The 200th anniversary of the Peterloo Massacre reminds us that the struggle against the capitalist ruling class has deep historical roots. It was in 1819 in Manchester England that a peaceful rally of working men and women demanding political representation were attacked by government cavalry welding sabres. Dozens were killed and hundreds injured. Peterloo marked the point of final conversion of provincial England to the struggle for enfranchisement of the working class. Writer-director Mike Leigh gives us an epic historical film.

What we do The Center engages in local community support and outreach to promote and advance initiatives and movements toward social justice, grassroots empowerment and democracy, and environmental sustainability.  It is also devoted to critical analysis of the processes and impacts of globalization, both local and international. The Center works to develop alternative socio-economic systems that conserve and share the world’s cultural, economic, and environmental resources for the benefit of humankind.
