  • Documentary Film: Orchestra of Exiles

    Sunday, March 10, 7pm

    JC3,
Las Moras 47, at 5 de Mayo

    $70, 60 members

Orchestra of Exiles is a compelling, heart-rending documentary film sharing the history of concert violinist Bronislaw Huberman’s creation of the Jerusalem Orchestra.

In the early 1930’s Hitler began firing Jewish musicians across Europe. Overcoming extraordinary obstacles, Huberman moved these great musicians to Palestine and formed a symphony that would become the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra.

With incredibly courage, resourcefulness and an entourage of allies including Arturo Toscanini (who conducted the first concerts of this incredible orchestra), and Albert Einstein, Huberman saved nearly 1,000 Jews and guaranteed the survival of Europe’s musical heritage.

This film includes commentary by musical greats interwoven with an array of outstanding historical footage.

This is an outstanding document of courage, determination and creativity…it is filled with individual stories by the original musicians as well as their children and grandchildren .

Cost for each film: 60 pesos members, 70 pesos non-members.
