  • 15 YEARS OF THE CUBAFEST FESTIVAL IN SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE

    From 8 to 18 March the CUBAFEST festival of San Miguel de Allende will be held on its XV anniversary, having as its traditional headquarters the main garden of this world heritage city.

    Its founders and organizers, Guadalupe Meza and Adolfo Rubio, General Director and Artistic Director respectively, have managed to renew the cultural and multidisciplinary offer every year for fifteen years, with rhythm, wit and flavor to Cuba; presetando annually an ideal mixture of theater, dance exhibitions, cinema, gastronomy, literature, record releases, object art, cocktails, concerts – dance; as an essential sample of the culture of the brother country.

    From 2003 to 2018 there are already a total of 150 days of intense and vibrant Cuban culture. This decade and a half CUBAFEST has consolidated San Miguel de Allende as a showcase of the splendid culture of the largest of the Antilles and has left presedente when establishing a brand being the only festival of its kind in the entire Mexican republic, that is why This festive tourist product enjoys a growing popularity, as well as a large annual tourist attraction.

    Benny Moré, Pérez Prado, Compay Segundo, Alejo Carpentier, Ibrahim Ferrer, Enrique Jorrín and other stars of the Cuban penragram have been honored in this festival that has filled with happiness the hearts of thousands of Mexicans and foreigners who annually, in March, appointment in San Miguel de Allende to enjoy full and free of your spoiled Festival CUBAFEST.

    Throughout these years of Cuban culture they have shone with their talent in the theater Ángela Peralta the Diva Omara Portuondo and the excellent jazz player Bobby Carcassés. And in the beautiful scenery of the main garden are the legendary Orquesta Son 14 de Cuba, the tenor Javier Camarena, the flutist Orlando “MARACA” ​​Valle, the composer and pianist Daniel Herrera, Los Jubilados, the famous Orquesta América, La Sonora Habanera, the pianist Robertico Carcassés; they are just some of this luminous wake that constitutes the island’s culture in our Latin language in the cosmopolitan city of San Miguel de Allende. In addition to the contribution of intellectuals of the stature of Miguel Barnet, Waldo Leyva, Jorge Petinaud, Vivian Martinez Tabares, Frank Diaz, Alfonso Herrera Franyuti, Eduardo Rosillo and Isabel Rigol; among others.

    In 2018 CUBAFEST pays homage to the great rumba singer Miguelito Valdés (1912-1978). And she is delighted to present the quintet of traditional music “CubaSon” of Santiago de Cuba, accompanied by the hot feminine group of Havana “Café Latte”. In addition, the performance of the couples of the new Salsa and Son dance champions of Latin America, the Mexican company “Nova Rumba” directed by Ivan de la Cruz, the teacher Yanira Castellanos and their cast of two hundred dancers at the rhythm of Danzón, ChaChaChá, Mambo, Rumba and more.

    In the seventh Cuban art, there will be premieres such as “Canción del Barrio”, with the participation of Silvio Rodríguez. In academic matters, two magisterial lectures will be presented: “165th birthday anniversary of José Martí” and “Che Guevara, 50 years of his disappearance and rebirth”. There will be fifteen literary premieres and another in the discography of Trova, Jazz, Son Cubano, Rumba and other musical genres of Cuban exponents of the island.

    The venues are the main garden of San Miguel de Allende where the traditional Cuban cultural, literary, discographic and artisanal exhibition will be installed. It will also host the artistic program 2018 La Plaza Luciérnaga in this city. And in other municipalities CUBAFEST SMA will be present in Dolores Hidalgo, CIN, León and Guanajuato capital.
