    By Nelly Richter

This Wednesday, August 23, from noon to 7pm, fashion designer and painter Laura Reyes, sculptor Efrain Gavali, and artist Mario Osornio will open a new exhibition, “Art, Fashion … and a Chair,” at Laura Reyes Art and Fashion Studio at Umaran 104.

    Fashion and Painting
Through gorgeous hand-dyed silks, cottons, and jerseys in her one-of-a-kind, elegant but yet practical designs, Laura Reyes has made a name in San Miguel de Allende´s fashion scene. And through her workshops, Reyes has one of the leading roles for the new generation of designers in town. As a painter, Reyes goes from beautiful and decorative abstract to really finely executed classical figurative paintings. For Reyes, the use of paint is the only medium to express deep storytelling, social issues, her subconscious mind, or nothing at all!

    Sculpture
Practice makes perfect or, as the French proverb says, forging makes a blacksmith! And that is just what Efrain Gavali has literally done. Moving from being one of the most skilled blacksmiths in town to becoming a metal sculptor capable of making a 27.5-foot-high detailed reproduction of the Parroquia … as an introduction to smaller, yet meaningful works of art with his very own unique
    approach.

    Art-Object … The Chair
After months—maybe years—collecting little things here and there, putting together one found object after another and with the patience, the vision, and the creativity that a work like this involves, art-object artist Mario Osornio presents for the first time to the public—a chair! A chair, as a center of a little universe, that is worth the time
