The International Cervantino Festival is the most important artistic and cultural activity in Mexico and in Latin America. Due to its consolidation in the international field of performing arts, it occupies a special place among the four most important festivals of its kind worldwide. In it converge music, opera, theater and dance, plastic arts, literature and audiovisual media.

Currently the Festival has achieved that Guanajuato, its headquarters, receives the cultural expressions that transit between tradition and modernity by bringing together an important number of international groups from different latitudes every year, as well as offering an important pulse of its national artists who They allow to realize a great value in their programming.

Diversity, universal cultural richness and artistic proposals of today and tomorrow is what has marked the Cervantino International Festival that bears the seal of the universal work of the novelist, poet and playwright Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra with the ingenious Hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha, Maximum creation of human ingenuity.

The objective of the FIC is not only to gather audiences, but to seek their formation and creation. The festival program for new generations and captive spectators, also keeps its offer to the spectators who wait for their programming every year.

Its origin is in Guanajuato, in 1953, when Enrique Ruelas made the assembly of the Cervantes Hors d’oeuvres in homage to Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra. The success was to have made this proposal in public settings where the community got involved with the project and this has been done for more than six decades.
