    Who Will Tell Your Story?

We are born to notice, to remember, and to share our stories. Though useful, formal academic training is not necessary to begin recording our stories in written form.

Participants will experiment with ways to honor, deepen, and enrich the telling of their stories. We will weave a thread of no-pressure, intuitive writing experiences throughout this two-week series, designed to woo the Wild Muse.

Bring a project, or go with the flow. Write for yourself, your family and friends, or for eventual publication.

Write what should not be forgotten. – Isabel Allende

We will tap into and record our memories of home, family, friends, places we’ve traveled, or other experiences from our lives. We will gather in a comfortable meeting room one block from San Miguel’s central park, el jardin.

The goal of each gathering is for participants to create one or more first drafts of a story or poem, for personal satisfaction or eventual publication. Beginning and experienced writers are welcome.

We will discuss craft essays and short forms of creative nonfiction and poetry by notable writers. Samples of fine writing will be used to demonstrate literary techniques and as models for our own work—to elicit ideas, evoke memories, and inspire us to write with greater honesty and clarity. We will transform our thoughts and experiences into engaging poetry and prose.

The intent is to create a safe and supportive environment for participants to create and share their work. Sharing is optional and encouraged.

Workshops are led by Maia Williams, co-director of the international San Miguel Writers’ Conference, co-founder of Poetry and Prose Cafés Bellas Artes, and publisher of Crossroads: La Vida Creativa en San Miguel de Allende.

Workshops are conducted in English. Seating is limited. Pre-registration is required: wownowmx@gmail.com – Subject: Write!
