Darbukanos: Belly dance and live music at La Casa de la Noche It is said that live performance is the lifeblood of artists. After long months of inactivity with its negative impact on recreational and cultural activities, this sector is in dire need of a boost. Local theaters and venues are currently open, albeit with restrictions and limited capacity, and we agree that public health should be a top priority. On the other hand, the performing arts (dance, theater, music) are barely staying afloat with a few sporadic events here and there. Some have tried to adapt to the streaming model and explore the possibilities of new virtual media, with varying degrees of success. For the public, watching a dance performance or a play from the comfort of home is not quite the same as the almost ceremonial act of heading out to a venue to take in a live show with all of one’s senses and sharing an immersive experience with fellow audience members.
In San Miguel de Allende, some restaurants and private courtyards have been converted into alternative venues enabling local artists to continue to express their creativity, while following public health measures such as social distancing, the use of masks, hand sanitizing and limited seating.
One such local artistic project is Darbukanos, a live music and belly dance ensemble that had rehearsed and announced its long-awaited performance, which unfortunately had to be canceled back in March because of the pandemic.
Now, several months later, Darbukanos are looking forward to once again sharing their music and live dance. They will be performing a show with a Middle Eastern accent, to be held outdoors in a courtyard at Casa de la Noche bed and breakfast, whose charming outdoor spaces provide the perfect venue for live events in these challenging times. The Darbukanos ensemble is made up of Israel Chávez (percussion and violin); Roger (percussion and guitar); Esther Azulito (vocals and flute); and Fridha Chacón Belly (fusion belly dance).
Fridha Chacón, the leader of Darbukanos, is a professional dancer with a passion for her art. It is with great enthusiasm and excitement that she returns to the stage to brings us this special evening of Middle Eastern rhythms and live dance, in this lovely space that we are sure you will enjoy as much as we do.
The show will be held on Friday, November 27 at 6 PM at Casa de la Noche B&B. Tickets 450 pesos. There will be a light dinner (wine, quiche and salad, dessert) available for purchase for those who want to enhance their sensory experience.
Reserve now by calling 415-152-0732 or you can get tickets at the box office at Órganos #19, Centro.
Health precautions will be followed including the use of masks, hand sanitizing, social distancing and a limited number of people. If the weather warrants it, there will be outdoor heaters.
