The doctor is in the house – the computer doctor, that is. Perusing San Miguel De Allende’s Civil List, one can’t help noticing that one of the most common topics has something to do with tech. Whether it’s an issue with the internet, Wifi, questions about Smart TV’s, how to get Alexa to work, or what’s the best TV viewing option for you, we’ve got the person who can answer your questions.The Midday Rotary Club of San Miguel de Allende presents The Computer Doctor, Thomas Crowell, Tuesday, May 21st. Mr. Crowell has 40 years of experience in the computer business. He notes that in those early days we would talk about the possibilities of future computing, imagining things like email, internet, artificial intelligence, social media, shopping, paying bills and not having to run to the bank or a video store.
One of his first projects was connecting a law office in San Francisco to a database at UC Hasting Law for research. Another project was with Levi Strauss’ world headquarters, configuring a PC network which may have been one of the first large corporate PC network systems in the world. A lot has changed in those 40 years. Today’s smartphone has more capabilities then much of the hardware in those two projects
Now we have Dick Tracy Watches and conversation with devices like Alexa. Who would have thought we would see the day that a device would wake you up, give you the weather report, our to-do list, a news brief and start the coffee before you find your glasses and get out of bed.
What started as a short visit to San Miguel de Allende 5 years ago, has turned into a permanent thing for Mr. Crowell. After meeting with several retirees, he quickly found out that there was a real need for his expertise. Join us, and find out what you need to know about all things tech, Tuesday, May 21st. We’re located at Cafeteria San Miguel Essen, next to the yellow caboose on Sterling Dickenson. Doors open at 9 AM with an optional breakfast for $100 pesos per person. The presentation will begin at 9:30 and is free.
