Why do musical artists come to Pro Musica in San Miguel de Allende when they could earn more elsewhere?

The Midday Rotary Club welcomes Michael Pearl, President of Pro Musica who will answer this question and others: What are the economics of classical music? How do we find world class performers at fees we can afford?  These are some of the topics that will be covered, as well as how classical music here and elsewhere is likely to recover from the pandemic.

See detailed information about membership and upcoming programs on the Pro Musica web site:  www.promusicasma.org. The 21/22 season of 25 concerts, opera, and other events runs October through March. The next event will be Martin Chalfour, concertmaster of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, who will perform at St. Paul’s Church on Calle Cardo on November 14. The website also lists interesting opportunities for volunteers who love classical music. “We need reliable volunteers to be involved in organizing and staging our concerts.  We are conscious that most of you are busy people and Pro Musica has a variety of tasks, big and small, to suit your time availability.”

Michael grew up in Portsmouth, England, where his father owned a large entertainment business including live theater, movies, catering, seaside amusement facilities, night clubs, ballrooms and dance halls.  Michael worked in the business from an early age and by the time he was 20 he was staging summer musicals as a producer in his own right.  After a spell at Britain’s newly formed National Theatre in London he trained as a lawyer and has been an academic teacher at University in the UK and a practicing commercial lawyer.  Michael is now retired from that profession and since coming to San Miguel 15 years ago has devoted himself to building Pro Musica into the largest and most renowned chamber music series in Latin America.

Join us this Tuesday, November 9 at 9:30 AM to welcome Michael Pearl and to learn more about Pro Musica.  To attend, go to the Midday Rotary Club website at www.rotarysmamidday.org and sign up.  You will receive an email with instructions on being a part of this week’s meeting.
