  • ABBA and the Plight of the Migrants

    Tuesday, December 3rd, 2019 9:30 AM

    Los Arcos
    Stirling Dickenson 27

You’ve seen their faces in countless news reports. The human drama of men, women, and children, fleeing political and economic oppression in Central America. This flood of humanity journeys their way through Mexico on their way to what they hope is a better life in the United States.

Over five years ago, Ignacio Martinez Ramirez and his family started delivering food and clothing from the back of their car to migrants heading north along the train tracks near Celaya. With the constant stream of hopeful desperation, Pastor Ignacio recognized their human needs. He saw physical and emotional exhaustion, the toll of families being separated from one another. And, of course, the life-threatening vulnerability of migrants to physical and sexual assault, robbery, and extortion while having little or no protection from Mexican authorities. Realizing that this was a life calling, Pastor Ignacio founded ABBA house. In the best tradition of the Mexican posada, he has sheltered, provided care, and met the daily and emergency needs of more than 700 men, women, and families who briefly call ABBA home each month. ABBA is a place where migrants can rest, receive food and medical and psychological help. The tragedy is that the dreams of a better life in the USA are met by tear gas at the border. In this world of nationalism and xenophobia, Ignacio’s work is vitally important.

Come find out more about this important work when The Midday Rotary Club of San Miguel de Allende presents ABBA, The Plight of the Migrant. Abba Volunteer Stan Allen will be joined by Pastor Ignacio Ramierz and immigration attorney Rebecca Eichler for this riveting presentation, on Tuesday, December 3rd.

Doors open at 9 AM, the meeting begins at 9:30 AM with the presentation scheduled between 9:45 and 10:15 AM. We’re located at Los Arcos at #27 Sterling Dickinson
