Imagine waterfront homes dotting the shoreline of Presea Allende.  It’s a real possibility.

Welcome in the New Year by attending a special Midday Rotary presentation featuring  Audubon & Amigos.  These two local organizations, dedicated to protecting San Miguel de Allende’s natural heritage, formed an alliance in 2017, with the goal of spotlighting the environmental issues currently facing our region.

April Gaydos, President of Audubon de Mexico, and Mike Lambert, the organization’s Vice President and Program Director of Amigos de la Presa will jointly present to the Rotary Midday Club on January 15, 2019.  Together, they will cover the merits of the between Audubon and Amigos, address some of the highlights of Audubon’s programs, and speak to their perspectives on the environmental issues currently facing the San Miguel de Allende region and the importance of community empowerment.

April Gaydos has been involved in environmental and sustainability efforts for many years, beginning in her hometown of Portland, Oregon where she helped to found the Urban Watershed Institute.   Later she was the vice-chair of the first Sustainability Commission in Palm Springs, California.  After arriving in San Miguel de Allende in 2010, she became a member of the Audubon Board of Directors and became its president in 2014.

Mike Lambert, the founder of Amigos de la Presa, has been involved in water recreational activities for nearly 30 years.  His resume includes being the founder and executive director of the Three Rivers Rowing Association in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, an organization that combined water recreation with water quality advocacy.  Amigos de la Presa believes that using the Presa for benign recreation such as rowing, canoeing, kayaking, and sailing encourages active participation in water activities and contributions to the Presa’s environmental sustainability.

Together, these organizations will offer solutions to the multitude of environmental issues facing San Miguel de Allende, particularly as our region continues to experience explosive growth.  Please join us for this important and highly informative presentation on Tuesday, January 15th  at San Miguel Essen, located next to the yellow caboose on Sterling Dickenson.  Our program begins at 9 AM with an optional breakfast at $100 pesos per person.  The presentation is free.

Rotary is where neighbors, friends and problem-solvers share ideas, join leaders and take action to create lasting change. For more information, contact President Ivar Schacke at Ivar1819@gmail.com
