San Miguel de Allende’s restaurants and some shops have gradually begun the reopening process and Hotels will welcome Tourists again starting July 15th.  Meanwhile the coronavirus pandemic is spiking to new heights in the United States.  Mexico City has rolled back it’s reopening plans.  Are we heading in the same direction?

Our guest speaker is Francisco Garay Russo,  Director of the Office of Economic Development and International Affairs for the City of San Miguel de Allende.  His department’s main goal is to work as a team with NGOs to economize their resources, and how to get NGOs into places where the help has been limited..  Garay Russo made a presentation last April and will once again  join our meeting via Zoom to provide an update on how the community is being impacted and what we can expect to happen next.  In particular, how does the city plan to revive the city’s tourism industry once it’s safe enough.  Are there any plans for Independence Day in September, or Day of the Dead festivities in November?

Francisco Garay Russo is a native of San Miguel with an impressive resume that includes public policy and international affairs at Princeton University, and Kaiser Associates in Washington DC.  He has a master’s degree in corporate law from Stanford University and worked for a law firm in New York before returning San Miguel. He also worked on Luis Alberto Villarreal’s mayoral campaign.  Mark your calendars for Tuesday, July 14th at 9:30AM when The Midday Club of San Miguel de Allende is welcomes Francisco Garay Russo.

For the safety of our members and guests, The Midday Rotary Club of San Miguel de Allende is video conferencing all meetings via Zoom.  Using this technology will enable the club to meet on a weekly basis and still reach out to the community.

While residents continue to self isolate within the safety and comfort of their own homes, members of the public are still welcome to attend our meetings by signing up on the Rotary Club Website at www.rotarysmamidday.org   You’ll receive an email with instructions on being a part of this weeks meeting.
