Meet up at La Luciérnaga shopping center.

6 km (3.7 miles). Moderate terrain, with a fairly steep decline into the canyon on narrow trail. Walking stick recommended.

    Limited to 16.

To reserve your place, email your name, phone number and the number of people joining you to audubondemexico@gmail.com. Please refer to the name of the hike in the subject line.

Join us for a guided hike through one of the most spectacular volcanic canyons in our area of Mexico: Red-Tailed Hawk Canyon. We offered this hike in January and had so much interest, we thought we would offer it again for those who were not able to join us.

Be prepared for a fun and an enriching experience as Arturo, a passionate naturalist and professional guide, leads us from the Hill of the Three Crosses, offering a magnificent bird’s eye view of San Miguel west to the moutains, into Red Tail Hawk Canyon, where he will describe how the geological force of Palo Huérfano volcano formed the canyon and the greater surrounding landscape.

From the rim of the canyon we’ll look for Red-tail hawks soaring along the cliffs. At the base of the canyon, we’ll enjoy our lunch beside a natural pool before wandering along the tree-lined stream where an ancient aqueduct marks the beginnings of our re-entry into “civilization”.

The hike ends at La Comer (surprise!), where we will carpool back to our starting point at La Luciernaga mall or you can catch a taxi home.

PAYMENT: To secure your space, please make payment on or before February 18. Deliver to Audubon box at La Conexion, #30 Calzada de la Aurora. Please write Audubon de Mexico on your envelope and ask the clerk to provide you with a receipt. Hours and map to the La Conexion office here.
