What is a Rainwater Harvesting Cistern? The rainwater harvesting cistern is the backbone of any rainwater harvesting system. In essence, these systems rely on a catchment area that is usually a sloped roof, a conveyance network of gutters and downspouts, a storage tank, and a distribution system.

This group of only 28 strong, made up of mostly English-speaking people with limited Spanish speaking skills has been honored to serve San Miguel de Allende. Since 2005 the Community Projects Committee (CPC) has been committed and actively working in bettering the lives of families in the rural communities and empowering women through their many projects.

Through partnerships with organizations like CEDESA, COCIRA, and Rotary Clubs around the globe, Midday Rotary Club has achieved many goals. The spotlight on August 10th will be on the flagship project “Rainwater Harvesting Cisterns”. Almost 1,500 cisterns, and counting, have been build that holds 12,000 liters of water each. That’s nearly 18 million liters of potable water for many who didn’t have it. We will share the benefits, the beneficiary’s stories, and the creative fundraising over the years that have provided the investment of over 20,000,000 pesos into the neediest communities around us.

So please join us to learn more and to also know how to become involved in making a difference.

Rotary is where neighbors, friends and problem-solvers share ideas, join leaders and take action to create lasting change.  For more information, contact President Skip Essick at skipessickmedia@gmail.com.
