On the third Sunday of every month, Audubon de México guides conduct a birdwalk for our members, residents and visitors to enjoy.
Each month we visit a nearby waterway which provides rich habitat for a variety of native and migratory birds. Over the years we have recorded more than 200 species within the areas where we bird. Depending on our location and the season we may see Caracaras, Blue Grosbeaks, Kestrels, White-Tailed Kites, Loggerhead Shrikes, Great Kiskadees, Vermillion Flycatchers, Brown Towhees, Cassin’s Kingbirds Black-Backed Orioles, Red-Tailed Hawks, Cactus Wrens, Curve-Billed Thrashers, and various types of woodpeckers, hummingbirds, doves, finches, sparrows and warblers within the riparian edges and adjacent fields. Water birds include Great, Snowy and Cattle egrets, White-Faced Ibis, Great Blue, Green and Night herons, Ruddy Ducks, Northern Shovelers, Killdeer, Avocets, Ring-Billed Gulls, American White Pelicans, and many more.
It’s always a great time in the countryside or our local botanical garden, no matter which birds we come across. We hope you will join us!
What to Bring: We recommend that you wear sturdy walking shoes and layered clothing and bring along water, a light snack, sunscreen, a hat and binoculars and a camera if you have them. We will have binoculars to lend and our spotting scopes for closely viewing the birds. We will also have our Audubon guides to local birds and butterflies for sale at 70 pesos each.
Transportation: We carpool to the site. If you have a car, we would appreciate your help in providing transportation.
